Acrel Provides Solutions for Power Monitoring

2025-12-29

01 Market Background

The demand for energy monitoring in the Philippines is rooted in its unique energy landscape and development goals. Electricity consumption is substantial, with a national monthly average of 34 million kilowatt-hours.

Traditional energy management methods lead to significant losses, with transmission loss rates as high as 10%-20%. This means a considerable portion of the approximately 200 million Philippine pesos paid monthly by utilities to power plants never reaches end-users.

As energy costs rise and environmental pressures mount, precise monitoring and management of energy use have become an urgent necessity.

02 Smart Grid and Metering Technology Applications

The Philippines is actively promoting the application of smart grids and advanced metering technologies. The Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative has launched a smart metering pilot project in six municipalities.

This system allows utilities to obtain consumption data automatically and securely without manual meter reading, enabling accurate billing while quickly identifying faults and reducing response times.

In Iloilo City, MORE Power has partnered with Electro Premier Venture International to pilot an AMI system.

The pilot includes the installation of 90 single-phase smart meters for residential customers and 10 three-phase smart meters for commercial customers, along with supporting head-end systems and communication infrastructure.

These smart meters feature theft detection, remote connect/disconnect, data analytics, and outage detection capabilities that help technical teams respond quickly to interruptions, significantly improving service reliability and operational efficiency.

03 Market Demand and Investment Potential

The Philippine energy monitoring market holds significant investment potential. According to the Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance, the Philippines requires USD 243 billion in energy efficiency investments by 2040 to reduce final energy consumption by 182 million tons of oil equivalent.

This substantial investment need stems from several areas: energy efficiency retrofits of existing buildings and industrial facilitiesthe rollout of smart grid infrastructure, and growing demand from businesses and households for energy management solutions.
