What is Demand?

Demand typically refers to the average rate of electric power consumption by a user over a specified period of time. It is generally measured in kilowatts (kW) or megawatts (MW), representing the user's average power usage level reached within a designated interval (e.g., 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or 1 hour—this is known as the demand interval). It reflects the user's instantaneous requirement level from the power system.

Maximum Demand refers to the highest value of the average power consumed by a user within a demand interval during a billing cycle (usually one month). This specific interval is typically 15 minutes, but depending on the regulations of different utility companies or regions, it may also be 30 minutes or 1 hour.
